How can I discern between positive and negative energy?

One time after a “Meet Your Guardian Angels” workshop, an older man asked me, “How do you know the difference between good and bad energy? When you are praying or asking for help, how can you be sure who you are speaking to?”
It was such an honest and important question - because at some point, everyone walking a spiritual path wonders this.
Discernment is not something reserved for psychics or healers. It is something your body already knows.
Negative or distorted energy rarely arrives as something dramatic or obvious. More often, it feels heavy. Dense. Sticky. You may notice anxiety rising without clear reason, tension in your stomach, pressure in your chest, or even nausea.
Your system begins signaling before your mind understands why.
Your body recognizes misalignment before your thoughts catch up.
In daily life, these sensations are invitations to pay attention. Not to panic, but to notice. Awareness gives you choice: to clear your energy, shift your attention, set a boundary, or remove yourself from the situation.
Low-frequency energy does not guide you toward your highest good. It creates urgency, confusion, self-doubt, or pressure. If guidance you receive in meditation or prayer feels manipulative, fearful, shaming, or pushes you toward harm - it is not of the light.
Higher guidance does not overpower your free will.
Instead, higher vibrational energies - angels, guides, and ascended masters - often feel like recognition. An “ah-ha” moment. A quiet remembering.
Something within you softens as if truth has been gently confirmed.
You may not immediately understand the message, but it will carry clarity rather than chaos. Even when the guidance invites growth or change, it arrives with an underlying sense of peace.
The energy of the light feels like love without pressure, wisdom without judgment, and direction without force.
One of the most important practices when seeking guidance is setting intention. Intention acts like a spiritual boundary.
Before meditation or prayer, speak clearly:
“I am connecting with my guides, angels, and ascended masters of the light. Only energies aligned with the highest good are welcome in this space.”
In doing this, you are not asking for protection from fear , you are choosing alignment through awareness.
Discernment grows through relationship: relationship with God, with your inner knowing, and with the wisdom already placed within you.
The more you listen, the more familiar truth begins to feel.
Have you ever felt the difference between heavy energy and peaceful guidance? What helped you recognize it?
With Love,
Kassidy
